The 2018 conference took place in Dovedale House, in the beautiful surroundings of the Derbyshire Peak District. It was on the weekend of 15th – 17th June. The speakers this year were Nick Megoran and Eline van Asperen.
Speakers
Nick Megoran
Dr Nick Megoran is Reader in Political Geography at Newcastle University. His research interests include the geopolitics of Central Asia since the Cold War and more broadly the dynamics of warfare and peacemaking. He is the author of Nationalism in Central Asia, Warlike Christians in An Age of Violence, and The War on Terror: How Should Christians Respond?, and of numerous articles for both academic and general readers. He is co-chair of The Northumbria and Newcastle Universities Martin Luther King Peace Committee, a keen supporter of Scunthorpe United Football Club, and a member of Heaton Baptist Church.
Eline van Asperen
Dr Eline van Asperen is a postdoctoral researcher in palaeoecology, based at Newcastle and Durham Universities. She is interested in finding out how people, animals and plants interacted in the past, with the aim of contributing to modern-day conservation issues. Her research covers a wide range of environmental remains from the ice ages, including bones, pollen, phytoliths, and fungi that grow on animal dung!
Eline is originally from The Netherlands, where she studied Archaeological Sciences at Leiden University. She moved to the UK in 2006 to pursue a PhD in York, followed by two postdocs at Liverpool John Moores University. Eline first came to TTM in 2007, where she met her (British) husband Anthony, and in 2016 they moved to Durham. As a flatlander by birth she is enjoying the hills!
